Hey everyone!
In 6 days, including today, it will be Water’s Wrath’s release day, the fourth book of Air Awakens series! Emily from Emily Reads Everything arranged a book tour for Water’s Wrath which is a little different from the usual book tours out there.
Instead of book reviews or excepts that book tours usually feature, Emily’s book tour focuses more on different promotional ideas which was chosen and decided by the bloggers. Some of the bloggers decided to feature playlists, outfits, book tags, fan cast, quote arts, etc etc.
This kind of promotional activity is really cool because we, fans/readers/bloggers can showcase our support and love for the book or series in a more creative way.

For me, I decided to do a speedpaint or fast-paced digital painting. BUT I messed real bad.
I was just saving the video of my speedpaint when the application I was using decided to crash, without saving even a temporary file which I could have recovered, at the very least.
I was on the verge of tears because I worked on it for, say more or less 2 hours.
But there’s nothing more I can do to save the video file and I can’t just stare and do nothing at all. At least, I still have the finished fan art, which is great.

So not wanting to post nothing on my blog tour stop, I decided to do a GIF of the process of my fan art, instead.

Actually, this is not entirely created by me, this is Elise Kova’s (yes, the author) line art from her last newsletter, and what I only did was color the lovely art.
So here it is….
THE CROSSROADS

That’s it! I hope you liked it! I initially decided to do watercolor art, but I didn’t have the time, so Elise’s line-art came just right on time. But I promise to make one real soon! *winks*

PS: Thanks to Library Luv for helping on Larel’s skin tone. 🙂

  1. Aww I'm sorry you lost your original video. I once lost a blog tour post the night before it was suppose to be published. It was for a blog tour and it was a long one. I was near tears 🙁

I love what you did with Elise's line-art! Thank you for showing us the process with the gif 😀 As someone whose best drawings are stick people, I always have the highest respect for people who can draw. Especially digital drawing, like how does that even happen? It boggles my mind. I can only imagine the amount of time and work it takes!

  2. Oooh I definitely feel your pain. As a graphic designer, I've experienced tons of frustrating events where I'm in the middle of a great project I'm working on and the program I'm using just… crashes. Then I end up gaping at my screen for, like, 5 minutes thinking if I should just give up on life or start over. xD

Then again, your coloring looks really amazing! You definitely brought Elise Kova's lineart to life. 😀 I'm TERRIBLE at coloring (I'm still working on it!) so I'm seriously just sitting here staring at your GIF for I don't know how long now, hoping I could learn something from it. xD Great work, Erika!

  3. Yes, it was so frustrating, but I stayed positive. At least I didn't lost the colored artwork. 🙂

Thank you, Eileen. I really enjoyed coloring Elise's line-art. If not for her great skills, my final product won't even turn out the way it is. Hehe

  4. Haha ikr! Or when our computer/laptop suddenly shutdown. Ugh 🙁 But at least, I saved the final artwork, which is what's more important. 🙂

Aww, thank you! When I was still a newbie digital artist, I also had a hard time with coloring and shadows. But I worked it over time, tho still lacking at some point. (you can check my YT channel on my sidebar, maybe my videos can help a little. hehe). Thanks again! 🙂

  5. Oh no! that's terrible about losing your video!! I swear art applications are the worst at crashing and not backing up… I've lost hours of animation work in Flash… grrr.
But that fanart is sooo pretty! And the coloring is amazing!
