*I received an ARC from the author, Kate Evangelista and it didn’t, in any way, affect my review*
I had the privilege of reading the first manuscript of Didi and Caleb’s story on Swoon Reads back when it was still subject for voting to get published. I didn’t finish reading this that time, because I got busy with college. But for the 2nd time around, I’m glad I was given another opportunity to read this novel and this time, I’m happy I gave this another shot.
I actually chose this book on my shelf on a whim. I was looking for a light and fast read contemporary story, because I’ve been reading fantasy for the past weeks and I just want something light to balance my reading mood.
The plot wasn’t new to me. I’ve seen so many be-my-fake-lover-but-don’t-fall-in-love-with-me stories in dramas or in other books BUT this one is an attention-grabber. Not that I don’t like fake-relationship kind of stories, I’ll be honest here, I find them amusing and entertaining in fact.
No Love Allowed was just the perfect type of read I was looking. It was fast, easy and quirky read. I actually would have finish this in only few hours, if not for my work. Didi and Caleb’s story was cute and fun with bits of drama to add up some spice. It was well-balanced.
The plot, as I’ve mentioned, was about a rich guy, Caleb, who asked the girl he met at the country club restaurant, Didi, to be her fake girlfriend to avoid the mothers who want to lurk him to be their daughters’ boyfriend. Caleb called these mothers, the sharks. Lol. AND of course, there were rules to follow while on the fake-relationship, and the number 1 rule… yes, you got it right! You cannot fall in love with each other.
It was totally like watching a Korean drama for some reasons. I used to watch a lot of Korean dramas and I’ve seen so many with this kind of plot, and I find them really entertaining, and well, swoon-worthy if done the right way.
The characters are very likable and I want to say fluffy. Lol. I don’t know why fluffy. They’re just too cute, okay. Caleb, at first, I find him not very swoon-worthy. I first saw him as some rich brat who acts like a kid, but later on, when I got to know him better, I can finally saw him as a very gentleman, sweet and loving guy. And Didi, despite her circumstances, I like how she’s so strong, bright and smart. And I have this strong attachment with her character because, she’s an artist. Okay, I’m a little biased there, being an artist myself. Lol
I also liked how the side characters were given enough exposures for me to be able to get to know them. I specially loved Nathan’s character. He’s fabulous and I totally like him! Then there goes Preston, who gave off the cool boy-next-door aura, and Nathan’s twin sis whom I also liked, Natasha.
I was also surprised to see this in a 3rd person multiple POVs between Didi and Caleb. I am used to reading 3rd person multiple POVs with fantasy books, but there’s not much I usually stumble on contemporary novels. And this was written perfectly. It was not confusing, in fact, it was very easy to read.
Overall, No Love Allowed is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a fast, light, easy and entertaining read. And honestly, I want to see more of Didi and Caleb. A sequel maybe??? Yes yes, Ms. Kate? *puppy eyes*
Be sure to look forward on its official release on April 19th 2016 and pre-order your copies with the links above!

This sounds really good! I find stories about fake boyfriends/girlfriends very entertaining, too. I read mostly fantasy, but I like to have this type of book in my shelf to be able to read them in between fantasy books. Great review! You really made me want to read this.

Yeah. You'll surely finish this book in a short period of time. It sure is entertaining 🙂
Yay! I'm so glad to hear that. Yes, sometimes too much fantasy makes my head ache. loool. Too much information. So books like this are great for balance. 🙂
