REVIEW

Disclaimer: I participated a blog tour hosted by Xpresso Book Tours. The review copy is provided for the tour. This didn’t affect my opinion of the book in any way.

The Chosen Knights follows the story of angel siblings Lucia and Zach, who were assigned to hunt demons in the human world. This comes after high school students have gone missing in a small town in Hawaii. Lucia and Zach disguised themselves as normal human high school student, and went to live with their Uncle Davin, who also has been patrolling the human world.

The book started out good, and a rather fast read. After I reached past 50% of the book, I realized how much it reminds me of The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I think fans of Cassandra Clare will either love or dislike this book because of the similarities, and I’m actually in between.

If you love demon-hunting angels

If you’re into demon-hunting angels and other supernatural beings such as vampires, witches, werewolves, etc., then you’ll surely want to read this book. The character concept is also quite similar to TMI, having Lucia as the newbie to the trio named Eli, Melani, and Brody. Lucia also has this nerdy human best friend named Jack and they are fighting against a fallen angel named Cyrus.

The Chosen Knights and TMI give off the same paranormal vibe, probably because both are about Nephilims, but they are still very different in their own ways. I’m actually not really a big fan of angels and demons concept (or at least from what I have read so far), so I gave this one a shot to see if it will make me a fan. And I actually liked it! Still not fan, but it’s something that kept me reading until the end.

My main drawback is the MC’s (Lucia) lack of sense. It’s either she’s being too stubborn and stupid with her decisions, or being too distracted and smitten over his brooding lover named Eli. These instances always resulted to not-so-good situations. She nearly made me pull all my hair out in frustration in so many occasions.

I think this could have been a lot better, and I’d probably give more stars if it’s written in 3rd person POV which could have added more dynamic into perspective. But other than my issues with the heroine, The Chosen Nights is a pretty good and fast read. I also found out that this series is actually a spin-off series to Mary Ting’s Crossroad series which is about Lucia and Zach’s parents.

Overall, it’s an OKAY read. Lucia still has time to redeem herself on the next books.
